They're trying to reach something behind the sofa. Their back is turned, their attention elsewhere.
Only for a moment. A moment's enough.
I snatch the thing from their waistband, the metal still warm from the pressure of their back. The angles are unfamiliar in my hand, but we've all seen the films. Played with the toys.
No time to aim. Finger goes there, just pull the trigger.
They realise. They fall suddenly still, begin to turn.
I've crossed a line. They will kill me for this.
But I can't miss from here. Can't miss.
Brace for the explosion.
